Over Simplified Story

http://www.terrorismawareness.org/

What I see and hear about the various successful terrorist acts of the past ten years seems to create a very simplified look at the Islamic threat and it has a strong propaganda bent to it meant to create fear that the danger is larger than it may be. Most frightening senarios give the terrorists and their tactics too much credit. It is a fact that often it was the lack of our intelligence gathering and police work that enabled the terrorists to carry out their deadly attacks unimpeded. Their success was due, in part, to pur many national security failures.

The struggle and ideological divide between the Shia and Sunnis is the real story. The conflict has the potential to destroy the Islamic hopes of waging war with the rest of the world. Read this book and gain a perspective that is relevant to the terrorist threat and also will show you that our government lacked this understanding and
was doomed to fail in Iraq from the moment they decided to get ride of Saddam.

There is a parallel reality and that is the one where far-right swinging Republicans can’t rule without creating fear in the lives of the American people, no evil enemy then no huge defense spending and weapons development and fat contracts to big political contributors.

If we managed to stop the oil sales from the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, the Islamic terrorism problem would disappear or would be very weakend.

We’re too smart to think we can win against them using conventional war waging tactics and the lets-frighten-them-with death-and-destruction retoric. This hasn’t worked for the obvious reason that life has little value to the most isolated and radical among them.

Capital punishment doesn’t deter capital crime and the threat of destruction doesn’t deter the Islamic radicals from the use of terrorism as a weapon.
